Motorbike jackets are essential for motorcycle riders who want to be protected when riding their motorbike. As there are many jackets to choose from, think about the features you are after before you start shopping. Of course style is important but other things to think about are, does it fit properly, what sort of padding or armour does it include, do you need pockets, what colour do you like and should your choice include reflective material for safety. Will you be riding in summer and winter and only want to buy one motorcycle jacket, which would mean you need removable liners, or will you buy two jackets, one for summer and a separate bike jacket for winter. Also, there are rain or water proof jackets available if you have to ride in the rain.
A properly fitting jacket is very important as you need comfort for long rides but even more importantly you need protection in the case of an accident. Hopefully you will never need the protection but when you purchase your jacket, make sure there is not too much movement in the sleeves, so you better protected in a crash. Also, ensure the sleeves are long enough for your arm length and are enclosed at your wrist. The length of your jacket is important and it should be long enough to cover your back. Make sure there is no gap between your motor bike pants and the bottom edge of your jacket. Some jackets have a hook or strap that join the bottom edge of the jacket to your motorcycle pants, so your jacket doesn’t creep up when you are leaning forward.
When choosing the style and look of your jacket, you do have a large range to choose from. There are now mesh jackets as well as the more traditional leather jackets. If you have a Harley Davidson, I would definitely go for a leather jacket to tie in with your motorbike, but if you have one of the racing style bikes, such as a Ducati or even a BMW motorbike, you can wear a mesh jacket. Although the leather jackets look very cool and stylish, you may find the mesh jackets more versatile with their removable liners and vents for airflow.
Whatever style and features you decide on, a motorbike jacket is an essential purchase, along with a good quality helmet, to make sure you are as protected as possible while riding.
