Tips on Car Shipping Service

Before vehicle transport carriers are allowed to go anyplace with your vehicle, they are required by the DOT to do a every day “Pre-Trip Inspection” of the equipment. We strongly recommend that you also do a Inspection of your car. In preparing for any transport, it is key to check items such as tire pressure, oil & water levels, other fluid levels, etc.

This inspection can help in avoiding troubles down the road, not to point out that it is a good idea to be familiar with your car. Loose moldings and the like have a propensity to take the air off in shipping, thus causing likely break to your vehicle or to others on the same load. Leaking fluids could also be a harm to the wellbeing of your car and/or the car below it. Please do you have any and all repairs done before transport. (more…)

Very Tiny Cars

The other day, I was driving on the highway and was passed by a yellow Smart Car. Approximately two to three minutes later, a blue Smart Car passed me. It seemed a little ridiculous to me, and I had to laugh. There I was, driving down the highway in my Jeep, and I was being passed left and right by cars that were a quarter of the size of mine. I wondered whether or not I was going fast enough. Looking down at my speedometer, I realized that I was driving just over five miles above the speed limit (which is relatively slow by most people’s standards).

Lately, since I accepted the fact that I am going to be stuck with my sport utility vehicle for some period of time, I came to the conclusion that I should try to conserve gasoline and money by driving slower. Back when I had my Nissan Altima, I was a true speed demon. Sometimes, looking back at those days when I had that little 2001 Nissan Altima, I wonder how I didn’t manage to get pulled over even once for breaking the law so much. I remember getting that little car up to 95 miles an hour on the local highway back on Long Island, New York. It was reckless and stupid, but I loved the thrill of driving fast and seeing how I could control the car. (more…)

Active Transport

What is Active Transport?

Active transport generally refers to walking and cycling for travel to and/or from a destination, but may also include other activities such as roller blading or use of public transport.

Many people find that choosing active transport options is an effective way to build physical activity into their daily routines and busy schedules. Active transport also has the added benefit to communities and the environment of reduced traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions. (more…)

The Dreaded Traffic Jams

No one likes to sit in traffic jams. However, if you live anywhere near a metropolitan or city-type area, traffic jams aren’t just inevitable; they seem to be part of your daily routine. Recently, I moved into a new apartment in a different town. Since moving, I have had several appointments in the city that required me to travel during morning rush hour. Normally, it wouldn’t have been a problem; but I had forgotten that I had moved. Having said that, I failed to take into account the fact that the traffic might be different since I was now living in an entirely different area.

Sure enough, once I was on the road, I sat in traffic for an hour. In that entire hour, I only traveled two miles! Two miles! Anxious to know what the problem was, I found myself fighting back the urge to become angry out of frustration- or worse- to perform an illegal driving maneuver in order to get through the traffic more quickly. Instead, I decided to patiently (as patiently as was possible) wait out the traffic jam and see what the cause of all the backed up traffic was. Do you know what I discovered after sitting in traffic for what was easily over an hour by that point? I discovered that the cause of the traffic jam was merely due to the fact that there were too many people on the road at one time. (more…)
