The reason why you want a good Connecticut car insurance policy is so you are properly covered when you have to make a claim, but ideally you would rather not be in a situation where you have to make one. The reality is that accidents happen every day, and you could be involved in one tomorrow.

Being involved in a car accident can be traumatic, infuriating, or just inconvenient, depending on the severity of it. In any case, it’s not a fun thing to deal with and in the minutes immediately after an accident, you might be flustered and not able to make logical decisions. We recommend that you try and stay calm so you can make the right decisions as this can help to have your claim processed without unnecessary delays.

Make sure you get the contact details of all parties involved, and their insurance company details. Take in your surroundings, and record any relevant details such as street names, type of road and the proximity of signs.

If the accident was minor, move the vehicles off the road so they’re not causing a hazard for other traffic. In the event of a serious accident, vehicles should not be moved – the attending police will manage that issue.

Of course, if you’re injured yourself you may not be in a state to obtain these details. Don’t panic – attending police will obtain information at the scene and their report will be available in due course. Contact your CT car insurance provider or your agent as soon as you’re able to.

There are six categories of Wisconsin car insurance, and it pays to know what your policy covers. Some categories cover bodily injuries and others damage to property. Here is a summary:
Property damage coverage, which includes:
- Property damage liability: cover for damage caused by you, or a designated driver, to someone else’s property, not only to vehicles but other property such as poles, fences or buildings.
- Collision damage liability: this covers you for damage to your own car, as a result of a collision or rolling, even if you are at fault.
- Comprehensive cover: this generally covers you for damage to your own car, including a cracked windshield, from such things as fire, flood, hail, earthquake, theft, vandalism, a falling object or certain other factors.

Bodily Injury coverage includes:
- Bodily Injury Liability: for injuries caused to someone else by you or a designated driver. This can prove very costly in the case of a serious accident so it is important to have enough cover.
- Medical Payments or PIP (Personal Injury Protection): to cover you for injuries to yourself and the vehicle’s passengers by someone else. It may include medical bills and lost earnings.

A final type of auto insurance is Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist Coverage, to reimburse you if a driver with insufficient insurance, or none at all, causes damages or injuries to you.
Insurance can be complex, but it pays to know fully what is available, and to be very familiar with the benefits, limitations and exclusions of any type of cover you take out.

Judge an insurance policy by its rates. Before signing any insurance contract, see to it that you have a clear idea of what their rates are. This is important because these rates may just represent a considerable dent in your budget, so you need to make sure you are financially ready.
