BMW Turbo – the Rare BMW

A turbocharger or “turbo” is a gas compressor used for forced-induction of an internal combustion engine. The purpose of this part is to increase the density of air that enters the engine, thus creating more power. But that isn’t exactly the BMW Turbo we will be discussing.

As a celebration for the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, the E25 BMW turbo prototype was built. For this celebratory occasion, Paul Bracq, one of the world’s leading automotive designer/artists most known for the Mercedes-Benz 600, came up with a crafted, innovative design for a new BMW automobile, the BMW Turbo. Best Classic Cars of the Future

The man who said the magic line “Ray, fire up the Quattro” is Gene Hunt, a fictional detective in ‘Ashes To Ashes’ – a TV series set in 1980’s Britain – and he drives a bright red Audi UR Quattro. And while Hunt’s completely un-PC view of the world makes compelling viewing, it’s undoubtedly the Quattro that’s become the star of the show.

They’re fetching £8,000 on eBay, the internet forums are alive with people trying to track down a model for themselves, and for the 30-somethings who were teenagers living in the 80’s, it’s made them realise that the cars they loved then could be classic cars of tomorrow.

Some people think, with some justification that the car they’ve had for 20 years might now qualify for a great classic car insurance deal. Others have found some spare cash, gone out and bought a Mk1 Golf GTi Campaign and are now firmly in the mindset of the classic car fan.

Except this time, the talk isn’t of Morris Minors and Triumph Heralds (although we love them, of course) it’s about what will make the classic cars of the future? (more…)

I have written a lot of articles on this subject, and I know if you have a bit of money to spend, you can make pretty good money on classic cars, my specialty is muscle cars, so that is what I will discuss in this article, I know them, and I know them well.

After twenty years of studying on the subject you learn a few things about them, the obvious thing is that if your a car freak, you can have a lot of fun making your money, it doesn’t have to be like work, I would suggest that at the first you specialize in one type of muscle car.

Choose your favorite muscle car, and learn all you can about it, buy every book that you can find, they created special versions of almost every muscle car ever built, and these are the ones that you can truly make the good money off of, they won’t be east to find, but it will be worth the hunt.

You need to make yourself an expert on the muscle car that you specialize in, yes you can expand later and begin to learn about different muscle cars, or classic cars, like I have specialized in the first generation camaro, and the second generation corvette. (more…)

Classic Cars For Sale – How To Buy A Classic Car

Published: Mar 4th, 2010 | Author: Alex Bhaswara Add Comment

A lot of people would love to buy a classic car, but they always seem to think that classic means cheap, they just don’t understand that you get what you pay for, if your looking for a car to restore, and you don’t want to start with a junk yard special, you’d better save up some cash.

This is not the 1970’s, or the 1980’s prices of classic cars go up every year, like clock work, it’s not that same thing as your new car that loses value as soon as you drive it off of the lot, this is all just a matter of thinking about it in a logical way, you get what you pay for. (more…)

Time for change

Published: Mar 4th, 2010 | Author: Alex Bhaswara Add Comment

Climate change and the environment are becoming increasingly prevalent concerns in our lives. We’re constantly being informed that our impact on the environment is going to affect our children in the future rather than causing significant damage in our lifetimes. This must surely ring alarm bells with even the staunchest of climate change disbelievers. We’ve all seen images on TV of ice sheets melting, extreme weather conditions and natural disasters; it does make you wonder if our impact on the environment is only going to make matters worse.

One significant change that we could all make is to drive a smaller and more economical car. Smaller cars with smaller engines are currently selling extremely well due to the benefits they offer to the environment and consumers. There are many reasons for this, economy is a big factor – modern superminis can average up to 60 miles per gallon, their five year old equivalents would be lucky to average 40mpg. This economy saves money and the environment, as ‘better economy’ means less pollution and greenhouse gasses are emitted by the vehicle. (more…)

Car Restoration – Plan The Restoration Of Your Car

I’ve been doing some studying in the past couple on months, and I have learned a fact about restoration that I really don’t like, this is a recent development in the industry, and it’s due to the fact that people aren’t planning the restoration of their car before they do it.

I’ve learned that with in the past couple of years a lot of shops have had a trend develop during the restoration of a lot of the cars that come to their shops, and that trend is, the car is changing hands four times before the restoration is finished. (more…)

Collector Car Market Report: Ferrari F355 GTS and Berlinetta

Several of these magnificent Ferraris have crossed the ebay auction block in the last couple weeks, most ending unsold. Supply is plentiful and if you still have a job and around $60k to spend on one of the best all-around Ferraris ever made, this is a good time to buy. Good to excellent examples range in price from $50-70K, the GTS generally going for about $5k more.

For capital preservation purposes, I’d recommend a red on black GTS with a 6 speed manual (black leather because it ages well, hides stains, is easy to re-dye and just plain looks great). That said, you should choose what you like as these won’t be appreciating in value for several more years. FWIW, my favorite Ferrari color combo depends on the model, but for the F355 I like red on black. And being a performance purist, I prefer the Berlinetta to the GTS (see Ferrari F355 photos). (more…)
