The man who said the magic line “Ray, fire up the Quattro” is Gene Hunt, a fictional detective in ‘Ashes To Ashes’ – a TV series set in 1980’s Britain – and he drives a bright red Audi UR Quattro. And while Hunt’s completely un-PC view of the world makes compelling viewing, it’s undoubtedly the Quattro that’s become the star of the show.

They’re fetching £8,000 on eBay, the internet forums are alive with people trying to track down a model for themselves, and for the 30-somethings who were teenagers living in the 80’s, it’s made them realise that the cars they loved then could be classic cars of tomorrow.

Some people think, with some justification that the car they’ve had for 20 years might now qualify for a great classic car insurance deal. Others have found some spare cash, gone out and bought a Mk1 Golf GTi Campaign and are now firmly in the mindset of the classic car fan.

Except this time, the talk isn’t of Morris Minors and Triumph Heralds (although we love them, of course) it’s about what will make the classic cars of the future? (more…)

I have written a lot of articles on this subject, and I know if you have a bit of money to spend, you can make pretty good money on classic cars, my specialty is muscle cars, so that is what I will discuss in this article, I know them, and I know them well.

After twenty years of studying on the subject you learn a few things about them, the obvious thing is that if your a car freak, you can have a lot of fun making your money, it doesn’t have to be like work, I would suggest that at the first you specialize in one type of muscle car.

Choose your favorite muscle car, and learn all you can about it, buy every book that you can find, they created special versions of almost every muscle car ever built, and these are the ones that you can truly make the good money off of, they won’t be east to find, but it will be worth the hunt.

You need to make yourself an expert on the muscle car that you specialize in, yes you can expand later and begin to learn about different muscle cars, or classic cars, like I have specialized in the first generation camaro, and the second generation corvette. (more…)

Time for change

Climate change and the environment are becoming increasingly prevalent concerns in our lives. We’re constantly being informed that our impact on the environment is going to affect our children in the future rather than causing significant damage in our lifetimes. This must surely ring alarm bells with even the staunchest of climate change disbelievers. We’ve all seen images on TV of ice sheets melting, extreme weather conditions and natural disasters; it does make you wonder if our impact on the environment is only going to make matters worse.

One significant change that we could all make is to drive a smaller and more economical car. Smaller cars with smaller engines are currently selling extremely well due to the benefits they offer to the environment and consumers. There are many reasons for this, economy is a big factor – modern superminis can average up to 60 miles per gallon, their five year old equivalents would be lucky to average 40mpg. Immobilizers Re-Flashing: How To Save Money

What are Immobilizers? Immobilizers are electronic devices fitted to a vehicle in order to prevent the engine from operating unless the proper key is used. It is one of the primary security features that many vehicles are manufactured with today and has greatly reduced the number of vehicle thefts in the US because it prevents the “hot wiring” of the vehicle even when access has been gained.

Interestingly enough, immobilizers are required equipment in numerous vehicles worldwide due to the fact that they have greatly reduced Vehicular theft. A static computer code was utilized on earlier models in the vehicle’s ignition key. An RFID, or “Radio Frequency Identification module that was looped around the barrel of the vehicle’s door lock barrel was then checked against the ECU (Engine Control Unit) to see if they matched. If there wasn’t a match, or the code was not recognized, this ECU prohibits the flow of fuel and will not allow the ignition process to happen. (more…)
